On behalf of St Louis Nurses in Advanced Practice I would like to wish you a very Happy National Nurse Practitioner Week! This year occurs as many of us combat the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrate the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightengale's birth AND the 100th birthday of Dr. Loretta Ford- the co-founder of the first NP program. The American Academy of Nurse Practitioner's theme for this year is moving forward: today, tomorrow, TOGETHER.
I know this year has been rough for many of you. At first you were called heroes often- perhaps friends and family sent you food, applauded your work, checked on you frequently. Earlier this year we were stressed but we saw light- we thought this would be a short term thing and things would be better after a couple of months. Now, eight months in, many of you are tired. You may be frustrated. You may be struggling. We hear you. You are a hero and we will get through this TOGETHER.
In times of stress what has brought me the most comfort is gratitude. Despite the stressful situations we may be managing at this time- there is ALOT to be grateful for. I am grateful for each and every one of you- the members of an amazing organization. I encourage you to take some time this week to take a deep breath, relax and remind yourself of the things in your life that you are grateful for. We will conquer this stressful time because that is what heroes do.
Please stay safe and be well. Thank you for all that you do.
